Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.

It's absolutely sensational. Buries the memory of the abysmal Cartel. I've just finished the SP portion of the game and I'm restarting straight away. Not only is it one of the tightest shooters I've seen in ages, it's actually got an amazing narrative arc. Theme and atmosphere in spades. I can't praise it highly enough.

Played the demo at the weekend and thought it was awesome but I just don't like spending 1200 points :D Maybe this one is worth it though... Felt far more satisfying than the Blood Dragon demo even with all it's great 80s movie feel.

Oh nice! I played the original Call of Juarez and hated it (the one that started off with a chain gun?) but after your post I'm looking forward to trying Gunslinger :D Cheers repairman!

Had a longer play of NFS Shift 2 last night. It's starting to grow on me, and I like the close, frantic racing.

Autolog is actually brilliant here (much more so than in Hot Pursuit), seeing the times your friends have achieved, tweaks my competitive tendancies in just the right way.

I love it when the scores are embedded into the game... I think it was Geometry Wars that first introduced it, but it's a great way to keep you coming back to something.

Yes, I'm hoping that even more games do that on the next consoles.

Edit: I'm still playing Far Cry 3. I'm at 40 hours now, mostly because I have found that it is a good game to play while listening to podcasts.

Managed to shake the Defiance disc out of the 360, at last.

Metro: Last Light. Fantastic atmosphere, I just wish I had the time to play it in a good run to really soak it all up. The shooting has been made more forgiving, for the creampuff youtube whinger generation, but it's still very dark and extremely well done. I feel safer this time out, on normal, and it's missing that terrific feeling that one bullet can be the end of you (especially if it's one bullet that you fire). Not having too many reloads, and waltzing through a couple of sections. Can't fault it though: I'm just glad it's here.

Fuse. Turned up from Lovefilm. Demo left me a bit disatisfied, but I played the nerk with the shield and I think he's the least interesting of the bunch. Initial impressions are a bit jarring as it looks a little like a Lego-Gears of War clone. It's brighter, less glossy, and the shooting isn't as on the money. Changed character to the one with the warp rifle (which creates black holes and chains singularities when you do enough damage to people) and, holy shit, it's far more entertaining. Played for an hour and a half, put eight levels into that character, and I'm quite keen to get back to it. I think it's no more than a 7/10 experience, but I can't deny I rather enjoyed it last night.

Warhammer Quest (iPad). Might just be the most addictive dungeon crawler I've ever played. Ten hours in and utterly hooked. (It only came out three days ago!)

I keep forgetting I'm dipping in and out of this:

Godmode.

The Club meets Serious Sam, 800 points on XBLA. Co-op or solo shooter. Seems from that description the very definition of a me-too game, but it's really worth checking the demo out.

Detailed progression system for the weapons and skills (and some modifiers to make it harder/get more rewards). The "gimmick" is that a random element is changed on each new level (five or six per each of the five landscapes).

It's as hard as hell to start with, but I'm now able to solo every level (at least on bronze difficiculty). It's had little press or word of mouth, but take a look before it's completely buried under the tsunami of mediocrity on xbla.

Oh, apparently State of Decay is out on wednesday. There goes the last of my free time.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U.

Stated this last night. Very different to what I'd normally play but the scale of it has certainly got me intrigued. Seems overly complicated so far but looking forward to putting some time into it to see if it grabs me.

Luigi's Mansion 2

Only 3 levels in but it's had me smiling a lot so far. Loads of fun to be had. Anyone else tried this one?

I am horrendously addicted to Picross on 3DS. I mean, so addicted I've forgotten about Luigi's Mansion. Terrible.

The Last of Us. Beautiful. In many more ways than eye-candy alone. A game I'd be happy to show to people who think gaming is a waste of time.

Loadsa Civ5. I'm trying to beat the 'Into the Renaissance' scenario on Prince, but the odds are so stacked against you. It takes the best part of 80 turns to find out just how stacked they are, and you've got 'just' 200 in which to win. I'm also failing to see any value in Religion in this Scenario. It seems to be a case of capture key points on the map and attempt to wipe out the opposition, like in every Civ5 game I've played. Hang on - is this why I never do that well..?

Actually a bit down of gaming at the moment - not playing anything for 2 weeks while I was on holiday hasn't really helped....

I've run out of steam on Soul Sacrifice. 20 hours in an it's all a bit same-y and real progress is a bit too slow...

Switched to Coconut Dodge (PS+ Freebee) - ditched that after half an hour. It's really just one of those free iOS/Android games...

Started Ratchet & Clank QForce on the Vita and it's just a bit sh!t. The platforming and shooty sections are OK (although the camera's a bit wayward and the game is often too dark to really see what's going on), but the tower defence element is painfully bad. Apparently it's a lot better in co-op, but that doesn't help me when I'm playing solo on the train :/

So I've decided to try something else - in rolls Velocity Ultra. One word: Sublime.

Is Velocity Ultra one of the PS Plus games? I really want to get a Vita, but can't justify it when I still have probably almost a hundred DS, iPad and Android games I want to play!

Currently playing Dishonored which is fantastic, though I was told you have to play it on the hard difficulty, which I am, and I'm really struggling with! Going to lower the difficulty on a 'no kill' second play-through though.

Also playing Professor Layton and Pandora's Box on the DS which isn't bad, and The Room on iPad which is fantastic and very atmospheric.

I've nearly finished Velocity Ultra and have loved every single minute of it.

There's enough variation across all 50 levels, with the difficulty curve pitched absolutely bang on to make this a joy to play.

It's definitely challenging, but every error is your own and it's never unfair.

The only downside is that it has to end :(

Zelda: Oracles of Ages (3DS Virtual Console). Definitely one of the tougher Zelda games, and quite frustrating at times, but just about rewarding enough to make up for it.

Velocity Ultra finished! Getting all the survivors on lvl 50 within the 60 second time limit was super tough. That said, overall I loved it - a solid 9/10!

Toying between Hotline Miami or returning to Ratchet & Clank QForce next...

My Vita's getting so much love right now

PS3 is getting all the love at the moment. Dividing my time between a second run through of The Last Of Us (lovely lovely game), Catherine (oooh that ice level is a bastard!), X-Com (a lot better than I remember the demo being), Demon's Souls (bloody stonkingly good - gets better the more I play it) and The Cave (quite quirky and fiddly but nicely done).

PS+ saved my gaming summer! Well worth the ridiculously cheap sub

Yes, signing up for PS+ pushed me over the edge into getting a Vita the other day, with the Jak and Daxter trilogy free, as well as Uncharted and a host of others. Of course, I celebrated my new purchase by downloading and playing Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid (the originals) /facepalm

The Vita is quite a piece of work and honey-mooning as I am it's a purchase I'm delighted with (especially as it was funded by selling off old music gear I hadn't used for 2 years); less than delighted at the price of the memory cards, though.

Once I'd finished my nostalgia trip, I got stuck into Hotline Miami - very hard to tear yourself away from, though nausea from the twitchy gameplay and its cloying atmosphere help. Now onto unit 13, something I'd never heard of til I did some research - a great little game, ideal for on the go with its 36 short levels but persistent elements e.g a roster of characters to level, daily challenges etc.

Need to unwrap Persona 4 Golden...

I've just done the opposite - as a Vita owner signed up to PS+ I finally got myself a PS3 yesterday. Traded in a bunch of games which got me a The Last of Us bundle for around 50.

Set the whole thing up and started downloading some of the PS+ games which I'd been adding for a few months now. Some big recent releases in there, but I'll never have time to get through all of them - for now, looking forward to getting started on TLOU this weekend.

I know it's been said a lot, but PS+ really has been a masterstroke by Sony, not least because it'll encourage people to buy their other consoles to take advantage of the free games.

Day three of trying to download Uncharted 3 and get it to work. What the F is up with this thing?

Gone back to playing Blood Dragon. Enjoying it more, but feel like I'm rushing through it now to get to the end. Beihn is fantastic, but everything else is very forgetable.

Downloading Hotline Miama. Time to see what all the fuss is about.

Just finished my rental of Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel. Not sure what's wrong with threequels; I liked the first two, but this was a gameplay, character and technical back-step. It even manages to shit on the first two. Very poor show, and probably the end of this series for good. (See also, Dead Space 3.)

I had a quick Google about this and it seems you need to download the F2P Multiplayer (the main download, no the language packs) element of the game to play the single player. It does mention this in the description on the U3 PS+ download page, but really they should have made it so when you clicked download you got all the required files!

As far as I can tell you download three files to get things to work; U3 single player game, 2D movies and U3 multiplayer. Single player and movies install into the game data folder and multiplayer icon appears on the XMB. You use this to access the single player. Clear as mud!

Cheers, sil. Been feeling a bit dim with this but I do think they made it a bit of a rigmarole.

I'm sure this will just be taken as a reflection of my lack of skill, but Hotline Miami appears to be utter shite. I need to stop listening to the cool kids.

Playing Jak & Daxter: The Precoursor Legacy on the Vita. This was one of the few games I completed on the PS2 and I loved it.

While it's still a solid game, some aspects have not aged well. The platforming feels loose and imprecise (not even close to the brilliance of Rayman Origins or Guacamelee) and the f**king fishing minigame in the Jungle Temple is a perfect example of poor design.

It really demonstrates what a leap Uncharted was Naughty Dog!
