Been playing quite a bit of the LOTRO beta, really enjoying that and am actually considering finally reading my way through all the LOTR books, which considering how much I hate Tolkein's writing is a little surprising.

I've also been playing GRAW2 and Chromehounds on Live.

However I should be in the Zone getting radioactive by Friday so I'll be doing some stalking.

Once you get through the first book you don't really notice the writing anymore.

Skip all the songs though. Seriously.

Last time I tried to read them I gave up halfway through The Two Towers, I couldn't stand it any longer. It was a long time ago though so perhaps my pain threshold has increased...

Exactly the same for me - found the first 2/3rd of Fellowship hard going, and skipped most of the pages in italics. "Oh shit, another song..."

Old Peter Jackson must've read my mind for the first film, as he cut out most of the stuff I hated about Fellowhip.

Heh best of luck. I just kinda zoned out.

I'm glad I read them though, worthwhile if you liked the films.

Dipped a toe into the water of PC gaming for the first time in ages. Bought a cheap copy of Silent Hunter III. Spent a good couple of hours just messing with a couple of tutorials. The scale of the game is a bit daunting, to be honest, but it looks like the kind of thing I could really get into.

Been advised I should install the Grey Wolves patch, which enhances the game no end. Anyone here ever used it? It's not an official patch, is it? Are there any rough guidelines to what GW adds?

Incidentally, the game doesn't look half as pretty as I'd expected - but there don't seem to be many in-game options to improve things. I was tempted to go straight to the fourth SH game - but early reviews claim it's bugged beyond belief.

Have you seen what Silent Hunter 4 looks like? Now that looks awesome. I always avoided the series because they're rock hard and there's always so much going on.

I recommend a Sony Reader, although you might not be able to get one in a straight swap.

Fuck me I just picked up all my game's I'd never play (again). Some PS2, 360 and DS.

took them to gamestation, thay gave me £206! I thought they was 'junk' games. Some were worth £20 each!

So... Looks like a PS3 might be in order come payday...

In a bid to liven up the front page...

Currently playing:

Oblivion. I downloaded the SI, started a new character, but have hardly touched the DLC stuff yet. That's how good Oblivion is. I'm sucked back in to the main part of the game. Loving it.

Earth Defense Force 2017. Just adore it. Ace fun.

Cabela's Alaskan Adventures (Loving it, despite the many flaws. A more realistic/tactical shooter than the last five Clancy games. Oh, yes. Possible review pending.)

Cabela's African Safari. (More GRAW than Growl, surprisingly. This is NOT a good thing. Again, will probably review when I've come up with enough witty captions. So far all I've got is "Bulletproof... Monkey?".)

Def Jam: Icon. (Yeah, I know. I thought the demo was shite too. Main game has been rather a nice surprise though. I spent a good few hours making the gangstas pimp slap each other to my own soundtracks. Very interesting to watch the world come apart to the sounds of Lonnie Donegan. "Hoedown" has taken on a whole new meaning. Tempted to do an article/album review.)

Theme Park DS. (And by playing I mean, it turned up a week ago, and I haven't unwrapped it yet.)

Puzzle Quest DS. (See Theme Park. Although the missus is loving it apparently.)

Oh yes. And:

Silent Hunter 3 (with GWX mod.)
Stalker. (In shite-o-vision.)

I must get back to Okami. Crackdown took me away from it, I believe. Kind of been swamped by new releases since then.

Seems to be the weekend for it; both fishmitten and I did too.

Which leaves me with nothing to play. Might have a muck about with XBLA, or perhaps pick up EDF2017; several people have suggested that it's great fun.

CastleVania IV (VC) - First Castlevania game I've played and I'm very impressed. One of those great games where each level is starting to take me about 5 or so goes to get down and it doesn't matter.

Zelda LttP (VC) - Just started this and have just left the castle. Only problem so far is that you're limited to 4 directions, which makes combat fairly annoying, but I'm sure that I'll get over that.

Zelda WW (GC) - Replaying this after finishing TP. Just at the Earth Temple now and if anything it's even better this time round.

Have they announced this week's game yet?

I hear a lot of people shouting for Catan. Got to admit I have no idea what this is...

Tht's what I'm playing at the moment, it really is great fun! The battles are mammoth, the vehicles are utter shit, the physics is laughable, the speech is hilarious. Well worth £20 of anyone's money. Like many reviews have said, it's kind of like a 3D version of a SNES shooter. Infinite ammo, bad animation, completely enjoyable

Iím playing Motorstorm. VF5, Okami and Stalker.

Okami is getting the bulk of the play but I keep going back to VF5. Itís made me love fighting games again.

Iíd really love a console port of Stalker, Iím well out of the habit of sitting at a PC and gaming these days. Plus FPSs really are better on a pad (hehehe).

Ooh I've heard about that and am reasonably intrigued but you'll be playing the Japanese version right? Which is of course, no fooking good to me.

At the moment (well, not literally obviously) I'm playing Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and PoP: The Two Thrones.

Partners in Time is so far very enjoyable and rather funny. Seeing a couple of the enemies saying "I r going 2 pwn joo!!" is surreal.

The Two Thones - I dunno yet. I've just started playing it and kept getting killed due to falling off a pillar. A handy tip: either don't play this game on a sunny afternoon, or buy some black-out curtains.

Yeah, but I think the US release isn't too far away, although I have no firm information at hand to back that up.
