I hadn't even heard of this game before today, but it looks great!

http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/07/brothers-a-tale-of-two-sons-review-two-for-one-3914877/

Made by Starbreeze Studios, from the review it sounds like it's got a great atmosphere and an interesting way of dealing with character development (ie it's maybe almost Journey-esque where there's absolutely no dialogue at all)

Hopefully there will be a demo available, really keen to try this.

Hadn't heard of this either until yesterday when I saw EG's 9/10 review. It's also been mentioned on my Twitter feed a lot so might be worth checking out. Especially given there's not a whole lot else to play at the mo.

What a game. Just completed it. Easily my game of the year. I think I might even dust off my reviewer's hat and knock one out as it were.

Wow - that good, huh?

How long's the game? Wondering if I can squeeze it in between Shift 2 and The Walking Dead...

Around 3-4 hours apparently.

Might get this myself, shame it's 1200pts though.

Yes and no. You could play with two people on the same joypad.

I dusted off my reviewer's pen.

I love the idea of this! Though hopefully by the time I come around to playing it, they will have implemented proper co-op :) My girlfriend kinda enjoys some games (ie Skyrim for the amazing game world, God of War for the mythology) but can't play them very well... this looks like it could be perfect!

Finished it. What a lovely game but oh that ending, ohhhhh that ending. Team Ico FINALLY have some competition.

Completed this over the weekend, and then did another quick playthrough to mop up the achievements (not often that I do that with a game).

Absolutely lovely game that just falls short of being a classic imo. Won't go into details for spoiler reasons, but it's too slight and ultimately lacks substance, even though there's rarely a dull moment in its three-hour length. As most reviews have pointed out it's more about the journey (through some stunning locations) rather than the puzzles. And the ending really is beautifully done.

Can I just say a huge thanks for this recommendation... it's the first game my girlfriend has played and we both loved it, her probably even more so, and it was one of my favourite games ever!

Just stunning.

Looking for something similar now... shame ICO doesn't let you co-op from the start :(

I'm just awaiting the result of the car's MOT to see if I can pick this up... The wedding and honeymoon has wiped me out for the next three weeks - only reason I'm looking forward to starting the new job.

Wonder if I can survive on bread and water to guarantee getting GTA V on release day...?

Started playing this last night - about 2 hours in- and loving it!

Having both characters on one controller is tricky, but brings so much to the game. I would be good to have a 2-player/2-controller option though.

Really looking forward to finishing it off.

I think two players / controllers would be nice for a bit of a 'tourist' mode but it'd make the game ridiculously easy. Do love the challenge of both sides of my brain constantly interfering with what each other is trying to do and mentally trying to keep track of which hand controls which brother.

Loved it though. As I said before, Team Ico have some competition at last, and Starbreeze need to get more dev gigs, definitely

From the demo:

Seems to be a corridor game

Difficult to control if, like me, you want to associate the left stick with the character on the left and vice versa, but keep forgetting it's not like that at all

Boring square peg square hole puzzles

I don't care if they find their dad, I really don't

All of your criticism is valid - the game's totally linear, the puzzles are about as taxing as cake and the controls are challenging, but the connection between the 2 main characters, emphasised by the control method, propels Brothers beyond all of those gripes and in the end you have a truly beautiful game

You have to see it through to the end.

Yup, the ending is fantastic.

Definitely one of my favourite games of this generation, just such an excellent experience and a great little adventure. Amazing how (for me, at least) you really feel for these characters despite the game not having any dialogue.

@Flying_Pig - I agree about the lack of a two controller option, but the game works great if you share a controller too... in fact I'd argue it works a lot better even than playing single player

Just stated this, last night. Seems ok but is it really worthy of all the hype?

What's the play time like?

2-3 hours

I thought it was good. Not particularly amazing in terms of gameplay, but the world and art style felt nice and coherent. Doing a convincing story with just gibberish and animations is a good achievement.

Bit late to the party but finally got this today and played it through in one sitting (bit hung over, raining outside, so what else could I do? :)).

It's really nicely done, the dual-stick controls had the potential to be a bit frustrating but it's mostly very forgiving and there's enough variety within the three hour play time that you don't get bored. There's some great locations and a lot of very pretty vistas too.

The thing I liked most about the story is the way the gameplay and the narrative intertwine, particularly with the neat twists on the gameplay right at the end of the game. And although it's frequently quite bleak there are some real heartwarming moments in there too.

It also reminds me how much I like playing games that I can complete in a weekend - there's obviously a place for epic games that take many weeks to complete but I do find it hard to follow a story when it's stretched over that much time. I guess it's like watching a film compared with watching a long-running series on TV - and clearly there's room in the market for both - but I do think it's a much-underrated pleasure in games.
