Having just moved house, the Xbox360 is now nowhere near the 'phone point, so I'm guessing I need to get one of those wireless adapter thingies. Just checked on Amazon, and they want £47.50 for the black 'N' version and £61.10 for the white 'original' version. I have an original 20GB Xbox360; are there any cheaper alternatives (that work) and what's the performance like?

Or should I just buy a new 250GB Xbox for £180?

Cheers.

This. Exactly what I did for when the Xbox moves downstairs (for Kinect stuff). Works far better than MS's own crappy wifi dongle.

Or just get a long cable and run it under the carpet... don't think I'd trust wireless for gaming, either console or pc. :)

I do ^^that, for multiplayer stuff. If you just want it for general downloading and such, wireless is fine.

The new 360 model is super nice though, and that original machine is going to crap out on you some time soon, probably in the middle of Skyrim, you just know it. ;)

I bought a wireless bridge for our sitting room which has 4 ports, and hardwired the 360 to one of those.

That's not a bad idea; what model? Alternatively, I'm thinking I might just fit a couple of RJ45 socket plates and go straight through the wall...

It was an old Buffalo one mate. Converses with the Netgear router no problem.

I have an original wireless adapter you can have. My original 360 is dead. Hopefully no problem it being bought in Japan.

Many thanks.

Got the adapter yesterday, thanks Trip. Unfortunately my Xbox doesn't seem to recognise it. It briefly flashes the LED red as I insert the USB plug, but then nothing; going to wireless network settings gives a 'please insert wireless adapter' message. :(

What do I owe you for postage, &c.?

Ah shit, that's a pisser :(

It was only a couple of quid for the postage so don't worry about it.

Cheers mate. I'm bound to get approached by someone in a half-blind bear suit tonight (it's the BBC's Children In Need today) so I'll throw a few quid in on your behalf.

Thanks again.

Does it matter which USB you plug it into ? I know some hardware only works on the USB port at the back of the machine, not the pair at the front.
