So no mass outbreak of excitement and adulation for this? I rather enjoyed ME1 despite not hoovering up nearly enough of the back story or missions, but you lot have been strangely quiet about the sequel.

No one that bothered / excited?

I've just bought the first game off Mike_Hunt as I figured I ought to give it a go seeing as the sequel is garnering such positive reviews.

I'm hoping for Fallout 3 but in Space. But not gay.

Not quite as grim and gritty as Fallout 3 but should have the same amount of depth. At least I hope so.

Preordered a while back, on the promise that a sequel to the original (which I only rate as a 7/10) will be an improvement.

The reason I'm not piling into threads about it? Spoilers. I'm avoiding anything on this, Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2 - the list goes on.

Remember when Bioshock came out and some fuckwit posted the twist without warning on EG? Out of spite. I didn't see it, but everyone who did was mightily pissed off.

I'm not even looking at previews any more - I enjoy games so much more when I go into them blind. I'm savvy enough to avoid a stinker (except when it's a stinker I like the look of). Other than here, reviews have become almost valueless to me over the past two years... so why let others potentially ruin some fun games for me?

Very much excited about this one. Hopefully it will complement my first foray into sofa based HD gaming as well. Huzzah.

I've been trying not to spoil the story for myself but I am weak and pathetic and the avalanche of trailers and discussions has proven too tempting by far. Haven't read any reviews yet though.

The more I play the first one, the more the flaws become obvious. On my first play through, it blew me away. I put up with all the awkwardness without question. Now, I am slightly more reserved, though personally it is probably more of an 8 than a 7 for me. I have high hopes for the sequel as it sounds like they have managed to iron out many of the first game's weaknesses.

It certainly doesn't have the depth and breadth of Fallout 3, but then I think that is a good thing. The scale and complexity of F3 meant that I wasn't really able to engage with it. I'm still in megaton on that one and haven't been back in a while either. I should clarify by saying that the first ME was compelling, story-driven though nowhere near as open-world as F3. At least from my experience.

I'm in a bit of a quandary about this one - I'm not sure I've got the time to sink into it (still not finished Fallout3 or Borderlands) and I found the first one just didn't hold my attention. I'll have to see whether people think it's a significant improvement before I even think about buying it.

I'm trying to avoid any buying games which is my only reason for not posting about it. It looks excellent but so did the original and I barely touched it - I never even got out of the station.

If this is more GoW than an RPG then I might be able to play it.

Between this and BFBC2 I'm not sure my willpower is going to last long.

I'm really looking forward to this and I'm counting down the hours until I can start playing it on Friday ;-)

I loved the first game and can't wait to see how Shepard's story unfolds. Like rmj I have been avoiding spoilers, but I have read a few articles on how Bioware have updated the mechanics of the game for the sequel.

It seems the cookie cutter side missions are a thing of the past. Now any planet you can land on is a fully realised location with its own mission that somehow relates to the main plot line. Bioware have always made great efforts to improve inventory management and it is now much easier to identify the best piece of equipment at your disposal.

Those 'epic' lift journeys are a gone, but don't too excited as they have just been replaced with a loading screen. I'd rather listen to the banter between my squad mates than stare at a page of text, but you can't have everything.

From the first batch of reviews that have appeared ME2 looks like it lives up to hype and then some. Friday can't come soon enough!

10/10 on Eurogamer, and they mentioned the magic words that may sell this game to me - Bioware have ditched the Mako sections.

Once again, no mention of the magic word they SHOULD be saying.

It looks like Shopto are already sending these out, so if anyone has ordered from them, check your emails.

Ha. I am literally the only person who didn't mind those bits :-)

I've just checked online and my local indie has it in stock...Yes!

I just need to find a way of popping out from work tomorrow...and getting out of going to the theatre tomorrow...and taking the rest of the week off.

argh! Can't wait for this to turn up. Sadly I'll have to wait until the middle of next week at the earliest since I ordered through play and it takes a while for stuff to be sent out to belgium. Sigh.

Yeah, why has the marketing for this been so hard to spot? Especially given the fact it seems to be getting pretty damn good reviews, I'd barely heard a whisper of it till I saw and advert in a magazine a couple of weeks back. Mind you I don't quite keep up on the old gaming news like I once did.

I enjoyed the first one but these days I don't really have the time to put tens of hours into something that isn't the best thing ever - I'm saving my gaming hours up for FFXIII, I think.

I thought the marketing was even more hype than Dragon Age. I found it difficult to dodge the torrent of videos and info they've been trickling to games media over the past couple of months. I caved and watched nearly everything, though I'm avoiding the reviews and the gameplay footage which is now on youtube. gamestation have lost my CE copy as well, the basts. Is it my fault I had to block my card a couple days ago because my bag got nicked? I even told Gamestation I would be calling them with new card details. Sigh :(

I have very little interest in this game (at the moment, anyway), but man the US boxart for it is awful.

o/ It sounds very good. Now I have to hope that the package doesn't get nicked from my letterbox. It happens sometimes, sigh.

yep, two discs that you will still need to swap even if you have them installed on the HD.

You guys bothered about the disc swap? I haven't experienced it in a while but surely, the two swaps it is rumoured you have to do will not involve all that much effort. I suppose there is an argument for a loss of immersion but I don't see that being very significant for me personally.

I still think it's strange that MS didn't include HDD's as standard in the xbox.

Indeed; very much a step backwards from the original model.

A completely different issue is why the default drive was so small, and why upgrading it should cost so much. My 20GB (although in truth, more like 13GB) HDD is absolutely creaking under the weight of DLC and XBLA games. I try to keep enough space for a single full game install (~7GB), but the additional content from Forza3 is threatening that.

Anyway, I picked up the original ME for a tenner from Argos and for that price, it was an absolute gem. Strangely though, I'm not particularly fired up about ME2...

Can't remember which game it was I had on my first gaming PC but disk-swap-elbow was definitely the order of the day. 6 floppies I think. Bloody thing!

It does seem a bit naff that the game can't detect your original play disk and just authorise you to use the installed content of the second disk without the need to swap.

How much space does the install take up, incidentally?

Is there any point in looking at the size of the steam ME2 folder people have been quoting? They were giving between 11 and 12gb. Not sure how relevant that is though.
