So Summer has arrived for myself (Well, only 2 exams left) so I have a lot of free time on my hands, and I feel like getting stuck into a lovely big RPG.

I've got a PS3 and Xbox 360 and I would probably prefer a JRPG for some reason, maybe the Final Fantasy Hype has got to me hehe. So my AATG lovely's. Any suggestions?

Final Fantasy hype? Go for FFXII. My personal favourite, the least dated, and very easy to get into.

Star Ocean for the 360's either out or coming out, innit? Maybe get that if you enjoy porn :)

Oh! And Persona 4 I very much enjoy. Must get back into that!

Yeah, FFXII is definitely the place to start for FF games, and JRPG's in general. It definitely has less of the flaws that a lot of JRPG's share.

A slightly more old school but still very good 360 RPG is Lost Odyssey, but I'd definitely recommend trying FFXII first.

I assume you have a PC as well so anything like Baldur's Gate/2, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment would do you.

Not JRPGs but you know you really want to play these instead.

I went ahead and ordered Lost Odyssey for the 360 there, and I'm going to have a quick look in town tomorrow for FFXII.

Good work dude! Lost Odyssey is definitely worth savouring, take the time to enjoy the dreams and soak up the atmosphere and it's a very compelling game.

Don't like the terms "trap" and/or "reverse trap" tbh, surprised you are OK with them.

I apologise :) I'm naive, I honestly didn't know "trap" was a derogatory term (heck I didn't know reverse-trap was an actual term, I was just playing with the word trap). Consider me taught.

About 40 hours ploughed into the game, now. The mundane domestic plots are actually quite interesting and there's some giggle-out-loud funny moments in there. The pacing is great - it really feels like all the plots are rolling out over months. I just hope the main mystery has a satisfying ending and isn't just a villain-ex-machina situation.

Most people don't really have the nuanced social outlook to see why it's a pretty bigoted term, so it has become semi-accepted, not really your fault.

(I believe I quite fancy the same character though, fwiw ^^; )

Which character? So long since I played it and can't remember a thing about the game really

Also, showing my own naivety here that I have no clue what a 'trap' is

SPOILERS

Naoto ^___^

"Trap" to me (in the adult content context) is someone visually female who turns out to have male genitalia. Literally for me it conveys mistakenly being attracted someone you mistook for the other sex. I've never really heard it in real life. :D As I've learned, it's a derogatory word.

THAT SAID, I haven't lost all affection for the androgynous Detective Prince ^____^

It's now November and the mystery has seemingly unravelled - I hope there's more to it, though. It's not completely villain-ex-machina but it still doesn't feel that clever. Hopefully there's some bigger revelations to come once they reveal their motives/reasoning.

Yikes, the field exploration music has become all gloomy, and everything has become dark-tinted. This atmosphere change reminds me of when Meteor arrived in FFVII :O

P4G main plot completed, phew!

The Killer's identity was pretty cool, though there were some large logical leaps required by the characters in order to come to that conclusion. There definitely could have been more explicit clues in the leadup, rather than the vague criteria that cause you to suspect this particular person.

The Killer's "philosophical" motive was okay, it wasn't as bizarre as I was expecting. I think it tied in well to the use of televisions throughout the game. But the reason the Killer STARTED killing was difficult to buy (the initial action that started everything, especially).

Ah well, feels kinda sad that it's over: the main cast are so endearing, and I love watching them interact :D At least there's a post-game.

Teddie's mid-winter outfit is the cutest :3

The main character is so creepy when you get him to silently hug people. He's way too robotic. He just looks like a creep when he hugs :s

Slightly dismayed at how the game was meant to be about accepting and facing the "shadow" part of you, and yet here I am at the end of the game and Kanji seems to have beaten/rationalised his attraction to men and Naoto has realised that she wants to be a woman after all. It felt a bit like the sexuality/gender issues were treated more as flaws that needed fixing. -___-

But that said, I fixed Naoto like a BOSS. That girl was all up in my room, in a skirt, spending the night. Sorry, Kanji, she mine, now.

/is such a playa

Hmm, I can't remember that happening!

Animation is pretty poor overall. So many times the screen goes black just because something complicated happened that nobody could be bothered to animate.

Some of the longer story scenes, the characters would be rooted on the spot, and the camera angle doesn't even change, so I just ended up listening to it like a radio drama.

(The other motive for this is so I wouldn't be tempted to read the text as the characters spoke. Subtitles always ruin spoken scenes for me - wish there was an option to turn them off, actually).

I figured I really ought to finish P4G before I am qualified to be excited about that.

But now that I have: I am very excited about that :D

Oh, Naoto! Can't believe your "fix" comments though York :P

Your post had me intrigued, so I just Googled who the killer was... don't think I would have expected that but it does kind of make sense I guess. I do like the twists in these games.

Unfortunately Persona games and me just don't get on - I like the idea of entering a world and having social interactions with the characters etc, but at times it was incredibly cheesy, and damn was the game a drag at times (the huge difficulty spikes in Persona 3 didn't help either)

It's a shame as JRPGs used to be my absolute favourite genre, by a mile, but now I just can't enjoy them at all. Don't think I've enjoyed a JRPG since Final Fantasy X and Dragon Quest VIII (two of my favourite games ever) but I am going to try the Persona beat 'em up, despite not really liking beat 'em ups either ;p
