Thought it was about time this place had a genuine happy smiley thread to cut through any doom and gloom. The weather's miserable out there, the credit crunch is all over the news but I've had a superb day

1) Bought all the stuff for my little girl's 1st birthday party. A mountain of stuff to cater for the people coming

2) Took her round the park and fed the ducks - first time ever she's fed the ducks rather than stuffing the bread into her own mouth by the handful (she must take after me)

3) Bought an iPod Touch for my birthday and got news that they're finally sorting all the parking out around where I live to stop all the selfish twats parking so emergency vehicles can't access the place

4) got called dada a lot. But then so did half the people my nipper has met today. Even so, awesome!

Share the love and smileys people...

Took my nipper to the dentist (got told off by the missus as she was late) and his teeth are fine o/

(mine aren't)

Got my eee 901 and set about installing office, firefox, avast and all my other bits and bobs on it. It is eerily silent due to the SSD and has a spanking 6hr battery life.

Netbooks are great for dusting off some classic PC games. Been spending far too much time playing roller coaster tycoon 2 and Sim City 2000 on mine.

Ah well it didn't last. I think I just got divorced :(

Note to self: buying shiny things is a fleeting moment of ace until your "financial advisor" finds out.

Paging Nelson Muntz to the thread, Nelson Muntz to the thread please.

Did you get it from Argos Peej? I can see the use of the 30 day return policy!

edit: just noticed it's not eligible...

Peej, simply hold the ipod touch 'in trust' until your daughter is old enough to use it. Of course, you will naturally have to create a rounded and educational library of contemporary music which in your role as mentor will mean donating your own collection of tunes....

I had a great day!

Met three people I hadn't met for a year and they were all really nice, was able to walk both to and from school, and on the way home I took the canal route, with loads of ducks. And my new workmates at uni are awesomes.

Ducks are really freaky when they glide through water.

I'm going to a 10pm showing of Friday 13th* with a mate. My wife and daughter are away for half term.

*OK, that might actually be termed as shit.

It's not your birthday for a week, so I hope that iPod's still in the box.

Ulp no, out of the box, stuff on it, me in big trouble. Actually just showed my dad and he's in complete gadget lust now so I could always flog it to him I spose.

Dang though it's very nice indeed.

Just wait until you start chucking apps on it! (Check out the app review thread on EG for some top tips). I've got about 7 full pages of quality apps on mine!

Nothing else happened and the day wasn't awesome but...meh. I'm happy others are happy.

Might get pissed and spam here next weekend (not this one).

Nice, hope it all goes swimmingly. :) (Although obviously you're not going swimming. I've never quite understood how that came to be the phrase).

happy birthday m_e!
Ok, the film was poor, and I had to tell a group of lads to "shut the fuck up please" but it was still a nice day.

Cheers dude. She's got the morning at a Rainforest place (don't ask - she loves trees) and then a traditional ice cream and jelly style bash in the afternoon. Already the house is getting a bit full to heaving with presents for her so it's going to be a belter of a weekend.

I had a pretty great (if expensive) day yesterday too. We got the train into Birmingham's jewellery quarter, bought an engagement ring and then went for beer and noodles at Woktastic! :D

Cheers Peej. The missus had a great time trying on rocks and wedding bands, and I found the whole diamond grading system to be strangely compelling...

You should take her to the treetop walkway at Kew - it's very cool.

Yeah that's definitely flagged up for the summer. A double hit because she absolutely loves aquariums too!

We need a "I've had a completely average, totally unsurprising business-as-usual same old crap day" thread, dammit.

Good day for me. I've just finished two awesome scripts that write other scripts that actually do the work and ... they work, lots of lovely logging in case something goes wrong too.

That's 3,000 users i don't have to move manually \0/
Sorry it's a bit geeky but my fellow Sys Admins/Ops Support will know the feeling :)
