spanky said:Pretty much very close. I actually thought it was better than the comic because the comic rambles off(which is acceptable due to it's stop/start publishing nature).

Glad to hear it - I only have very vague memories of the comic from the mid-80s, and it's one I've never read despite enjoying and owning a good amount of other Alan Moore stuff.

Did a bit of retro film watching over the weekend and ended up watching Cool World.

Eeek, it's dated horribly. Ruined all my memories of it being quite an ace film with loads of brilliant bits and sexy lead character in cartoonishly pornographic homage to Kim Basinger but when Holly does the transformation from doodle to real girl, you can't help but laugh at how feckin' horrible Basinger looks.

Still, nice skirt... :) And the soundtrack almost saves it (FSOL FTW!)

DVD of The Departed arrived in the mail this morning. My film of last year. Have a house guest coming to stay for a couple of days. Apparently they're bringing Slither, which I haven't seen yet. Likely to be a few old DVDs coming out of the cabinet in the next couple of days.

Heh, watched Snakes on a Plane then An Inconvenient Truth. Talk about contrast!

Very impressed with Al Gore, less so with the amount of time it took for Samuel L Jackson to start referring to the 'motherfuckin' snakes on the motherfuckin' plane'.

Quick quessie to the AATG massif. What on earth is that Japanese film that keeps getting advertised that's just come out on DVD. Looks bonkers. Huge genetic mutant alien slug thing basically running around terrorising and eating people. Could be called "The Host" or somesuch? Me wants!!

Saw Little Miss Sunshine at the weekend. I quite enjoyed it but fail to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I'm dead inside or something...

Tonight I'll be mainly watching An Inconvenient Truth. Is there any redemption/hope or is it armageddon all the way?

JimJam,my condolences on the death of your soul.
Little Miss Sunshine, when the missus said we were about to watch this I was thoroughly fed up, comedy with cute child, sheesh.
Teh bestest!

Saw The Illusionist on Saturday. Very nicely shot, had a cameo from Max from Eastenders, and overall kept me pretty entertained.

Also watched the first hour of 2001 a space odyssey. I've wanted to see it since I read the book and saw the preface Clarke wrote that talks about the script and film being written side by side. Its funny how the book doesn't give you a clear idea of what a 60's version of 2001 looked like :)

I wonder how good they could make the last bit of 2001 with modern cgi?

Saw The DaVinci Code. Not as bad as I'd been led to believe. (It's better than Doom, if you know what I mean)

Watched "Good night, and good luck" at the weekend. Was surprised to discover it was only 90mins long, and indeed, thought it was a bit thin in places. Loved the cinematography though.

Watched Clerks 2 last night. It's an excellent sequel. Follows on from the first film in every way without being a straight copy which is a very hard thing to do. It's incredibly funny and charming and I now want Rosario Dawson soooo bad.

Watched Dead Mans SHoes on Monday night again, with my wife.

It's officially now my favourite movie of all time.

I can't begin to explain how perfect it is for me. There are at least 10 shots in the opening 10 minutes, that I could only ever dream of photographing and Toby Kebbells performance is just truly astounding.

My wife was completely convinced, to the point of me having to prove to her that he was acting.

Just perfect.

It was. And I didn't feel much better afterwards.

It's called "The Host" - Nick saw it last night at the pictures and said it's fucking awesome.
