I just bought the Borne trilogy box on Blu-ray. The films are great, no doubts there. They being transferred onto high def however isneither good or bad.

How's the picture? I have 2 and 3 (HD-DVD and DVD respectively) - worth getting the boxset?

Son of Rambow. Ace little film with many chucklesome moments. Some great kid acting too. Recommended.

It makes me wonder what Hammer & Tongs could have done with Hitchikers without interference.

The answer to that is "A fuck of a better job"

Though then I wouldn't have found out who Zooey Deschanel was, so I guess it balances out a little.

I was paralysed by the awfulness of Notting Hill last night, I've seen bits of it at chicky-friends houses, but never suffered the entire thing in one sitting.

As an atheist, I shouldn't believe in such things, but if there is a hell, I am certain there is an entire level of it that is filled with giant screens playing nothing but Richard Curtis films.

She's rather good in "Yes Man" which I watched the other day, I went into it with low expectations but rather enjoyed it.

A certain "Flight of the Conchords" cast member basically plays his FotC character in this as well to rather good effect.

I concur. I was made to sit through a back to back sitting of the Bridget Jones films once.

Well it's a while since I saw it but I remember enjoying Notting Hill.

I also enjoyed 4 Weddings and Love Actually actually!

Is this Hairy's coming out thread now?

Hulk - the one with Jennifer Connelly. If she wasn't in it then I would've stopped watching halfway through. It really isn't very good; neither any successful attempt at depth (Hulk doesn't have that much anyway so to make it the focus seems odd), Nick Nolte is just annoying and Hulk looks appalling.

The new one is far better even though it wasn't great.

Sicko - Michael Moore's documentary about the US' medical system. Even taking his normal over-exaggeration and twisting into account, it was still an eye-opening account of what happens when you let medical types run health services for money

Drag me to Hell - a bit late to the party on this one, but I guess it'll still be on at some of the bigger out-of-town multiplexes, and it's bound to come out on DVD soon enough I reckon.

Really enjoyed it personally. It helps if you go in expecting entertainment rather than a deeply affecting emotional rollercoaster since this is resolutely day glo american gross-out horror.

Special effects were pretty good, and it's very pleasing to see this sort of film using the effects that are available today. The plot was absolutely predictable and as such never failed to deliver on my expectations - though it was quite inventive in how it got from point A to point B in a number of places, especially the ending.

Not recommended if you are emetophobic, or you have a bee in your bonnet about American straight up horror, but otherwise this is a great fun film for grown-ups which is worth catching on the big screen while you can.

Heard about this, and as much as I've got no faith in the NHS, knowing how fucked up the medical side of things is in both the US and Aus doesn't exactly make me want to move there any time soon

Moon - well scripted, nice cinematography, good plot, fantastic set design and a really very good performance from Sam Rockwell. Not so much a thriller as the trailer suggests, but it still kept me entertained for the duration. Probably the best new film I've seen so far this year.

Moon - just got back from it, and I'm blown away. Subtle, well made, nice star turn from Rockwell. Some telling nods and clues that made me grin. Film has a real impact that I wasn't expecting. Shows up most of the other shite I've seen this year. See it!

My local multiplex isn't showing Moon, just many screens of 'Arry Pottah! Hopefully it'll show up next week.

Saw Harry Potter yesterday, it's not bad, as Harry Potter films go, Hermione is legal now, right?

The Simpsons Movie - (on blu ray for some reason), it looks like film versions of TV animation always do i.e. extra animation effort and small touches but it has been done a bit better than normal.

The first half is very good and gets a good few laughs, certainly more than the TV version has for a few years. It flags a bit towards the end but it really isn't at all bad.

Batman: Gotham Knight

Like the Animatrix but with the Dark Knight. 6 shorts from different directors.

It's all right. Some cool takes on Batman, though with the length of the shorts, there's not much in terms of plot, rather just snippets.

The animation is pretty.

Gone Baby Gone - great little thriller written by the guy who penned Mystic River. Was pulled at the cinema in the UK due to it being about a little girl getting abducted - not only was the timing rather indelicate, but the kid resembles M.M.

For something that has the name Affleck attached to it (more than once), this was pretty great. Ending surprised me.

Love that flick. Absolutely fell hopelessly in love with her (the character though obviously Audrey Tatou too!).

Watchmen

Hmmm not sure what to think about it. It looked the part, the characters were fleshed out well, then the whole thing turned into some sort of bizarro morality play about sacrificing "the few" to save "the many".

Great effects though but wayyyyy too much Doctor Manhattan Shclong on show and not nearly enough of Laurie's gorgeous pert little arse.

Watchmen

It was okay but it's very long and, unfortunately, feels it. There's too much of nothing happening for a lot of the film, Dr. Manhattan feels far less interesting and successful as a character than he does in the comic.

Rorschach isn't as interesting and the comedian is used far less than he should be, I suspect a lot of that is due to what has been cut out is mainly towards the beginning of the book so his screen time is pushed to the front with little later on.

The new ending works quite well though.

Batman and Robin

Up there with Citizen Kane and the Godfather as one of the greatest films ever. Brilliant and intelligent script with well thought out characterisation and acting and some extremely good, calm direction.

Or the exact opposite. Alicia Silverstone also is a terrible actress with a mouth that is very off-putting due to its wonkyness.
