You crazy fool.

Go on then, top 3 car crash moments from it?

1) Car chase in the jungle involving monkeys swinging on ropes with idiot boy from transformers

2) Gophers laughing

3) whole pointless ending with alien spacecraft.

It had some of the most annoying Spielberg/Lucas traits in it -

That gopher/prairie-dog bit which is classic (shit) Lucas, like Ewoks in general, and the Sarlaac burping.

The bit in the South American cemetary with the acrobatic urchin children - it was fucking Pan all over again. Classic (shit) Spielberg.

Oh yeah, and flying several hundred metres in a lead-lined refrigerator.

I get the whole "It's a fantasy film, so we can take the piss a bit" but even with the previous films going slightly over the top in places, there was always the feeling that it was at least grounded in reality somewhere along the lines.

But it was just wholly shite from start to finish. Transformers boy = annoying. Marion = Doubly annoying. Virtually every set piece in it was embarrasingly ludicrous, and Ford (bless 'im) looked so bored and almost phoned in his part...

It could be worse though, can you imagine if Lucas / Spielberg now said "Hey we're good to go with a series of New Indiana Jones film with that annoying kid in the lead role"?

It comes to something when I think that IJ4 was a worse film than The Mummy 3

I don't get all the Shia Leboeuf hate, he's no less annoying as a sidekick than the kid from Temple of Doom.

I actually enjoyed parts of the film, as cliched and ludicrous as they were. But Ford was too old, looked bored, and the plot was shit. No point even mentioning the ending, and that nuclear blast fridge thing could have fucked off as well.

Frank Lebouf is going to be (Indiana) Jones going forwards though isn't he? That's a large part of the hate right there.

River Phoenix was being groomed for it via the young indiana jones wasn't he? He would have simply replaced Ford as Indie but I imagine Frank will simply take over as indies son. Ford is definitely too old for it now.

And thus Lucas destroys the remaining franchise he hasn't so far ruined for everyone.

Wash your mouth out! Short-Round was annoying but he had some of the best lines in IJATTOD by far.

"No time for love, Dr Jones!"

It's amazing how many of those little quotes of his find their way into my regular speech patterns.

"Not now Lady, We go fow a wide!"

It is a pity that Sean Patrick Flannery was so crap in the Young Indiana Jones telly show. That idea had legs at least.

RP as Indy would've been quite neat. Stupid twat had to go and coke himself to death though, argh.

I swear though my opinion of Ford has changed. I think if he put his name and his presence into this, he'll basically make any old shite.

Other films I watched recently:

Death Race (the recent remake with Jason Statham).

Actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's a serious no-brainer macho testosterone-fuelled job but it's actually watchable in the same way that The Running Man was (and for similar reasons).

Some seriously great cars / stunt work in it though you get the distinct impression that it was almost made to be turned into a videogame as it plays out just like one. Amazed none of the trash-devs took on the project (surely Midway would've been a shoe-in to do a game tie in of this)

I thought Indiana Jones was ok for a brainless action movie. I couldn't get too het up about the spaceships and gophers. Moslty though, it looked fucking spectacular on blu-ray.

Christmas on Mars - a film written, directed and starring the Flaming Lips. If ever there was something that the phrase 'WTF?' had been invented for then this must be it. It's completely insane with a vaguely coherent plot and acting by people that are clearly not actors. The script appears to be entirely improvised and seems like the sort of thing Ed Wood would have been proud of.

Definately worth a watch but make it's not exactly one for the family.

Batman Begins - Purely because The Dark Knight should be here soon :)

Appleseed - I first saw this about a year ago and although it looked pretty I didn't get much more out of it. This time it seemed a lot better, possibly because I've been watching a bit of other Anime so I know what to expect more.

It's still gorgeous but kept reminding me of how good Valkyrie Chonicles looks - it's pretty similar in the character design and animation style of them.

I am legend.
I'm not sure what to think really. I didn't bowl me over, it was competent i suppose. I just didn't care when it ended. I though the best parts all centred around the dog especially the last scene they're in together. After that it seemed a bit rushed and the last 5 minutes seemed almost an afterthought. The cgi on the infected was slightly ropey at times and took me out of the film a bit.

It was ok but for all it's corn i think i prefer The Omega Man.

Did you check out the alternate ending? I think it's better. Not much... but better.

Wanted - pure fluff but still pretty entertaining and some nice ideas despite Angie being disappointingly skinny (the arse shot was still worth it). I'm a big fan of the director and his style, it's almost like it's a character in itself which is good for this type of stuff.

Good to see the Russian guy from Daywatch/Nightwatch having a small role too.

Nothing overly wrong with IJ4, for me, the first three films were totally silly and OTT anyway, so I don't get the "grounded in reality" argument. Not saying it's in their class, but the tone is similar.

Nothing wrong with Shia LaBeouf, either, y'all just hate him because he's so much younger than you. :p

Anyway:

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane:

Film: 7/10
Amber Heard: 10/10
Overall (not an average): 8/10

Pretty fun film, decent twist, some good deaths, falls into the silly trap of having victims that you actually want desperately to get killed, though, which ruins some of the tension.

Zack and Miri make a porno - loved it.

Kevin Smith performs his usual magic by making a film full of filth and smut yet also manages to make it sentimental and touching.

Quantum of Solace

It was an alright action movie, but for a Bond movie it had too much of it and too little gadgetry.

8/10

I want an Aston Martin. :)

Not much right with him either :P

He's got the "Anthea Turner" effect for me; he seems amazingly popular, appearing allover the place, but I have no idea why because they seem so utterly average in every single way.

Watched The Last King of Scotland last night. Yeah, I know it's old but I hadn't seen it until now. Thought it was absolutely superb - the way it begins so brightly and then gradually descends into darkness is supremely well done, and there's some terrific performances from the central couple of actors. Definitely highly recommended if you've not seen it (er, but don't watch the last half hour or so whilst eating your tea, like I did - you might lose your appetite somewhat :/).

The Dark Knight

Christ almighty. Had high expectations of this, and in some ways it delivered but fuck me, it could've done with being about an hour shorter. Shorter you fool!

Great stuff on the Twoface / Harvey Dent bits though - but not recommended while eating a plate of ratatouille.

Also watched:

The Bourne Ultimatum

Really top notch stuff. Full of action, crazy set pieces and generally brilliantly done.

I thought Iron Man was great and felt RDJ's performance was up there with Heath Ledger's in Dark Knight.

If that's what passes for a good performance nowadays then my expectations of Dark Knight (which arrived this morning) have been substantially lowered. A couple of amusing lines does not make someone a good actor.

I think my issue with Iron Man and Batman Begins is that superheros just don't meld with the 'real world' too well. They're designed to be shallow, two-dimensional characters. Placing them in more realistic environs just digs humongous holes in the plot/premise

I think that's definitely the case with The Dark Knight. It all felt a bit shambolic that the grittiness sort of removes part of what a superhero flick's supposed to be about.

FWIW I think RDJ is the comeback kid but at the same time he's very much a one trick pony - Perfect for Stark (shallow, slightly self absorbed, but with a good heart).

Whereas Bale as Batman - christ, you just want to kick his teeth in!
