Wow, first bad thing I've heard about the Simpsons movie. What was your attitude going into it, peej?

I thought it was better than peej obviosly did but it's not great. It's amusing in places but it has the exact feel that all the TV cartoon to film cartoon films have such as the Flintstones and the Jetsons.

It feels padded and it is far too sentimental but still slightly more amusing than most of the recent episodes.

edit: Disturbia is shipping today for me, so I'll tell you when that arrives as an example.

This arrived on Saturday, according to my postie, so four days delivery time. It would seem that DVDPacific are over whatever it was that was delaying delivery slightly.

Ace film, too. Some great scenes, really tense and at times amusing. It proved too difficult for them to do anything original with the ending, but then I was expecting that. Definitely recommended.

I watch The Forgotten last weekend, and I can't believe it slipped under my radar. I absolutely loved it - excellent film. If anyone hasn't seen it yet I urge you to see it, and not to read anything about it before hand, lest you have any plot twists revealed.

Oh, and I watched the Bourne Ultimatum on Wednsday too. If you liked the first to then you'll enjoy this also. No more to add really, it's still good at what it does and it delivers. Oh and he's upgraded from kicking ass with a pen in the first movie to using a book in this one. One man armies FTW!

You probably just didn't remember about it.

edit: yes, I make Deja Vu jokes every time I see a copy of the movie. And almost always Premonition jokes.

I dunno what I was expecting really - I think I just expected it to be a collection of all the best bits of some of the episodes I'd loved. Instead, it was just an excuse for Marge to have an extended whinge about Homer's stupidity (how the fuck did she miss it before?), Lisa to engage in a bit of shoestaring sentimentality, and Bart to pretty much end up being groomed by Ned Flanders.

Oh and there was a dome in it. And Spiderpig.

That did seem weird. 20 years of Bart pretty much hating the entire Flanders clan and then for the film they turn him into a surrogate (creepy) father purely for the sake of creating a plotline.

Watched Robocop again for the first time in a few years. I'd forgotten what a quality film it is.

I watched Outlaw tonight. It was quite different - and somewhat better for it - than I expected.

Essentially, a bunch of men reach the end of their tethers with criminals for various reasons and decide to make a stand. So far, so tabloid. Except - and this is the kicker - they're a pretty unlikeable bunch themselves. One's a complete coward, another's a blatant rascist with military fantasies, and they're all influenced by their own red top-influenced hates. These aren't the people's heroes in the slightest, they're desperate or unhinged men with their own agendas.

The film for the most part treats them with the same lack of sympathy as the villains - there's no real incentive to root for anyone. It's pretty bleak as a result, but isn't the 'yahoo, clean up the streets' shoot 'em up that it was billed as. It's not one of the brilliant British films, but it was a better way to spend a few hours than I'd genuinely expected.

I see, I see. Well, I still haven't got around to watching it but I might go this week to check if you're crazy or not. :)

If you go in expecting it to be not much better than the current (US) episodes then you'll probably enjoy it a lot more.

He's not - it's awful. I started a thread about it here, if you want a full list of grievances.

Just watched Clerks for the first time and liked it. It's rough, some of the acting is terrible but it managed to draw me in.

I got all the Kevin Smith films cheap apart from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back because I've seen it and didn't think too much of it, loved Dogma but didn't get that 'cos I've seen it a few times. Mallrats is probably next on the list and I will get around to every one eventually.

Watched Old Boy.

Actually really brilliant film, and one I wish I'd seen ages ago. Really loved the plot, really loved the main guy's complete mad off the wall lunacy, and the twist at the end was just such a bitch...! 9/10

Got Battle Royale queued up for later.

you need to watch clerks, mallrats, chasing amy and dogma before j&sbsb, it's one great big in-joke circle jerk and you'll be missing half of the film if you watch it without the history.

oh, and you need to watch the hooker scene on the deleted scenes bit, tis fucking brilliant. they should have editted it back into the film for the dvd release.

Wind Chill - 6/10 though probably more a 5/10. Just pointless.

A Scanner Darkly - 7/10 or 9/10.
I was expecting more from it. It's a bit too shallow and straightforward for my taste. Visually stunning but not as convoluted as i had hoped. I will watch it again though as it was fun at times.
