Watched Shooter - brainless but fun, & as Furbs said reminded me of the Bourne films too. Also 28 Weeks Later, which was pretty decent I thought, with a good ending as well.

Apart from flashes of Bill Murray goodness, it's pretty poor. It feels like it should be a 1 hour mini-film - the visits to the ex-girlfriends are pointless and the ending seems to be ambiguous to make it more "arty".

Think I'll watch The Wire now to offset this.

Yeah it's an odd one. I'm a massive fan of Jim Jarmusch (the director) and his films are often very slow, downbeat with a really dry sense of humour ("Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai" is probably his most accessible, "Coffee and Cigarettes" is really funny), but Broken Flowers really seemed to be wilfully obscure and vague, almost like Jarmusch was deliberately trying to piss the viewers off :-/
Not his best.

I'll only think it's any good if they do another sequel and show the frenchies being trashed by zombies :)

I've only got a UK PS3, so I don't think it touches any region A movies. Which is a shame :(

Ah well. I'm tempted to say that it would play anyway, as there's no region marked on the disc or the packaging that I can see, but I wouldn't like to say that and then have it not work.

Rather worryingly it seems to have been taken off amazon's listings and has no release date on play.com. o_O

Watched transformers last night. Honestly, what was all the fuss about? It was alright, and some of the starscream stuff was great - fight, jump up, fly off, come back, strafe - kind of thing.

Overall I thought the autobots were the biggest bunch of muppets ever, and they really didn't make Megatron into the raving lunatic I remember him being in teh series. 6/10

Wholeheartedly agree. The effects were ace, but it just utterly sucked as a film - even the battle scenes didn't really fire me up as much as I thought they would. And that fucking annoying Soundwave thing just pissed me off to no end.

I thought Transformers was the mutt's nuts. It was fun, fast moving and had some pretty good comedy moments. Let's face it, how much can you expect from a film based on a toy anyway? ;)

Movietyme says it is region free and a quick google search seems to back this up. Only £15.99 delivered though I have never used these lot before.

So - just so that I can get this straight in my head - if a DVD, Blueray, or PS3 game isn't itself region locked then I can play it on my UK PS3?

Is there a site where I can check the region status of games (I take it movietyme is the place for checking movies).

Also - can anyone recommend a good place for importing Blu-ray movies?

Yeah, that's right.

There aren't many movies that are region locked, and only a handful of games (mainly UK games not being playable on foreign machines so far, too). Don't know where you could check it, though.

I import my movies from dvdpacific, but a lot of people use movietyme and some use amazon.com.

Hear hear, I can't seem to source 'em anywhere for a reasonable price, or from anyone without a massive wait time...

Shame really, there's quite a few BR films I want - just don't trust Movietyme (a few EGers have moaned about the length of time stuff takes to ship) and most of the UK online retailers are seriously taking the piss with their prices.

Generally a week, has just recently started to push up towards 10 days but seems to be back down again now. US based, have outstanding customer service and generally reliable stock levels shown on their site. I don't like the fact that they keep such a good record of what you've ordered from them, though, as I've spent way too much money with them over the past three years or so. Never had one problem.

edit: Disturbia is shipping today for me, so I'll tell you when that arrives as an example.

Sounds perfect.

One last question - do they keep your card details on the site or is it a "enter your details for each purchase" type thing like most online e-tailers seem to be doing?

On site, and i've been using them for bloody years, not one problem so far..

Just makes sure you order each item seperately, lest you fall foul of the tax man.

There is a couple of options when choosing shipping, i forget what it's called, but there is one to send that item only, otherwise they'll bung whatever comes in on your order together resulting in much tax man roddage.

I found it's best to order sober, otherwise you forget to do this.

:D

The US Blu-ray release schedule is more exciting than the UK release schedule to almost the same extent as the DVD release lists were at a comparable stage.

Yeah, the dual standard is driving me crazy at the moment too - a lot of the films I want are HD-DVD only. Gah.

Any idea what format the LOTR movies will be released on?

They'll appear on both eventually but there is a slight chance they'll do a Matrix and come out on HD-DVD first from what I've read. That was a while ago, though, and by the time they come out at all they could be ready for both formats.

Play-asia.com is good for showing region protection on games for PS3 and 360. Example.

Simpsons Movie.

2 gags that made me laugh, the rest was sentimental dross of the worst kind. Proof positive that a Futurama movie would've been a better bet
