Good film, well worth it. Offer runs out midnight tonight.

It is very good.

The Social Network

It's a very good film even if you have no interest in facebook but like Sorkin's style. I can't help but feel the soundtrack contributes far more to how good the film is than normal.

Just watched Exit through the gift shop.

I thought it was amazing but like Borat and Bruno was left wondering how much of it was real and how much staged.

I'm also in about ten minds as to what message the film was trying to convey.

War of the Worlds

Morgan Freeman's voice 10/10
The rest 5/10

The last Indiana Jones film.

Not as good as I remembered the previous Indy films being, but then I haven't watched any Indy film in a long time. This one was a bit too overthetop towards the end.
Amazing disregard for anything archeologically valuable throughout the movie. Is that the case for all Indy films?

That actor who played the greaser kid is, like in all films he is in, not very good. Pretty poor CGI too.

6/10

Easy A

Watched this for the second time. Still think the dialogue is one of the best in any of the recent comedies. Particularly the bits where the parents are involved.

9/10

Happy Feet

Would have been better with less songs, but nonetheless very enjoyable and it all looked very good.
The hispanic Adelie Penguins were great. :)

So was Morgan Freeman's voice

Teenwolf

Nowhere near as funny, cool or as charming as I remembered it being. Also found it quite offensive when MJF told one of his mates he had something tell him, to which replied:

"You're not a FAG are you?"
MJF - "NO WAY I'M A FAG." almost disdainfully.

Which also reminds of Back to the Future which was on TV last week, and there's one scene where some dude laughs at the idea of "a coloured mayor?".

O_o

My how things change.

I think that was the point of the scene in BTTF, how things have changed. The comment was made in 1955 to the black man who would be mayor in 1985.

Vote Mayor Goldie Wilson!

Really, though? I think an overwhelming majority of guys would still take offense at having their sexuality called into question.

Last couple of films I've seen:

Tangled- great film, better than the maudlin crap pixar has taken to turning out.

Gullivers Travels- shit. Jack Black is shit, everyone is shit, and the ending is shit. It ends, and then bizzarely turns into a shit musical with Black doing a shit redentition of War, and all the characters joining in with a shit dance.

Transporter 3

Oh well, there had to be at least one Statham film I didn't like. And this is it.

Also - WTF is with Channel 4's sound mix? Films (and dialogue in general) sound muffled and mumbled to the point where you can barely hear anything at all unless the volume on your TV is really loud. Then as soon as the fucking ad breaks come on it's like everything's being played through a megaphone.

Sort it aahhht

Oh the film? Utter puerile shite that made Transporter 1 and 2 look like fucking Shakespeare

The Expendables

Absolutely awesome action film. Not much plot to speak of, but that doesn't really matter when the action comes thick and fast! The wrestling fan in me would have loved Stoner Cold Steve Austin to give Sly the Stunner ;-)

Kick-Ass

Really enjoyed this film. I knew very little about it going in (I didn't even realise it was actually based on a comic until I watched the extras), but I thought it put most of the other big budget super hero films to shame.

All of the action scenes were fantastic and surprisingly gory at times! The ending leaves open the possibility of a sequel, but not sure if that would be a good idea. Making Kick-Ass a competent super hero would destroy the charm of the character and having Hit Girl constantly save his skin for another film would just be retreading old ground.

Watched Tron for the first time in probably about 20 years. One thing I'd completely forgotten was how much of a gigantic crush I had on Cindy Morgan at the time. To my overactive youthful mind she was the epitome of 'a babe' particularly in that extremely tight fitting suit.

Er the film? BR transfer wasn't too bad, but does highlight how ropey the effects are in places. Still a fantastic little flick for a bit of 80s reminiscing and for some reason all the cold sterile looking polygonal CG (what there was of it) still looks mighty impressive compared to the realistic stuff we get these days.

Haven't touched Tron Legacy yet. Just want to savour the last vestiges of the first film for a bit longer...

Watched Unstoppable at the weekend - a bit of a daft premise, but pretty watchable.

Also, latest Harry Potter - bleak. And mostly a setup for the payoff of the finale.

We watched Black Swan over the weekend. Nasty. Very nasty. And a typical Aronosvky (sp) film in the fact that I had to apply a constant commentary to the wife on what was actually happening.

Dug out some old Kung Fu DVDs:

A Chinese Ghost Story - Silly but entertaining, not really much kung fu.
Iron Monkey - Completely avoids all problems with child actors by having a child actor who knows kung fu.

I would have watched Prodigal Son (Whole thing on Youtube!) too but the disc has gone wandering, probably inside another case. Shame, It's one of the best Kung Fu movies ever. It's got an ass-kicking chinese opera queen in it, what more could you want? Sammo Hung? Yep, he's in it too.

Still like The Big Boss for old-skool chopsockery. No need for much of a plot just a hell of a lot of extremely fast scrapping and a chance to get a look at Bruce Lee at his peak.

We saw Prodigal Son on C4 about 15 years ago and were astounded by it. It suddenly went from a camp comedy film (the toilet flushing bit was hilarious) to a really violent arm breaking ninja-fest. Shame its still so expensive on DVD.

Machete

Much better (and less gory) than I thought it would be actually.

The Tourist

I've read before that it wasn't supposed to be that good, but I quite enjoyed the slow paced nature of it all.

Scre4m - as a massive fan of the first three movies, particularly the first one which is probably one of my most-watched films of all time, I was not best pleased to hear this announced at first. They gradually built up my excitement over time though, and then some positive impressions I heard finally convinced me to go see it... and I'm glad I did. I doubt anyone in their right mind is going to earmark this for "greatest horror movie of all time", but if you're a coming into it from my geeky-series-fan point of view, then it totally delivers.

Tron Legacy

It's your standard blockbuster film with a paper thin plot; however the film absolutely makes up for it with a totally cohesive visual and audio design that makes the Grid feel like a believable world. It looks great on Blu-Ray, plus it has the great special feature The Next Day.

Love it.

Was expecting shallow military action movie and got exactly that. Enjoyed it.

Still don't like the character Michelle Rodriguez plays in everything she is in.

I watched Rubber, too, a film about a killer tyre.

Not a fan of Seth Rogan so had little expectation going into it but I absolutely loved it :D :D

It's just a shame seeing Cameron Diaz so skinny, can't help but think of her appearance in the Mask :(

It's something different from a superhero film, without descending into complete comedy stupidity. Loved it.

I didn't say it was good. It was exactly the kind of movie I wanted to see. :)

Watched Prince of Persia last night. Lots of monkying around (literally) and Gylenhall was actually not bad in it, despite not looking Persian at all. Preferred the opening and end scene of the game though.

Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Had a 'doh' moment when I realised who the old beardy guy was that was behind the "Flynn Lives" movement in the short film :)

Tron Legacy had some very cool bits in it that referred to the original film. No Laurie though (she's still quite hot. Still would!)
