The only good thing about transformers 2 is that Megan Fox seemed to think it was an audition for a soft porn film. The rest of the film is so terrible that it still isn't worth seeing.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 - by this stage, I don't think these movies need much reviewing. I enjoyed it, but if you don't think you will, then you probably won't.

I thought it was very bleak and overlong.

I thought it was wonderfully bleak. ^^; Perfect atmosphere, and some lovely location shooting.

Teen comedy that is actually quite good. Had a bunch of actors I don't know, but the main actress and her parents were great. Lots of witty dialogue. :)

Silent Hill

Really good popcorn movie. On the Videogame to Film genre it's King above all others, only the first Resident Evil comes close.

The reality changes are awesome, and the story is fun to watch and I really liked the end.

Acting (except Sean Bean) are convincing... The monsters looked great!

[Rec] was the last film I saw, really enjoyed it, as far the whole cheapo looking video camera horror films go that was a good one. Want to see the second one now.

A bit too much gore for my liking, but than it is a zombie film. Thought it was quite funny.

I really like Emma Stone's voice for some reason. :)

Slumdog Millionaire - better than I thought it would be but glossed over the real drama of being a slum-dweller in the same way that Trainspotting glossed over the shitty side of being a heroin addict. Ended up being a pleasant watch nonetheless though.

Finally got round to watching Inception. Not quite as mind-manglingly complicated as I'd been led to believe. Very slick flick all the same and some great BR features too.

No but on the second viewing you can spend more time working out why so many people thought it was complicated. You can certainly make it complicated if you try hard enough.

Bad Lieutenant
Best performance by Nic Cage in years. It's one of the few times I've seen him that his hammy overacting was so perfect for the role that I didn't spend most of the time (wrongly) laughing at him.

Story is decent but it's only really there to carry the character. Definitely worth a watch.

Inception
Still enjoy it, not as much as The Dark Knight or The Prestige, purely because it didn't flow quite as well as I think those did nor did it have any standout performances as those two did (Ledger and Jackman, respectively) but it's a very solid film and easily one of the best of the year.

The fact that a big studio were willing to risk this much money on him and the idea, even if the reasons why they did are easy to see, gives me some hope for Hollywood.

All three movie adaptions of the Stieg Larsson novels. The books are of course better, more detailed, but the movies were surprisingly good too. Just like the books the first movie is the best one, but the following movies aren't bad either. Just not as good as the first one.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I've had this blu-ray sitting on my shelf for months so I thought it was about time I actually watched the film. I thought it was an excellent action movie and I hope they make a sequel.

The special effects were great and the numerous fight scenes were very well done. I loved the opening montage of Wolverine and Sabertooth fighting in wars over the past 140 years. I'm not much of a comic book fan so I had no expectations of how the various mutants should be portrayed, and I probably enjoyed the film all the more for it.

Overall I'd give the film 8/10.

Tron: Legacy
The plot is virtually non-existent, Cillian Murphy is on screen for about 30 seconds then vanishes for the entire film (why?) and young Jeff Bridges/Clu appears to be made of plasticine. Despite all that it's pretty enjoyable fluff - effects are pretty, as are the women and the numerous arse shots, Jeff Bridges is his normal self and the soundtrack is perfect for it.

It has convinced me more than ever that 3D is a completely pointless novelty, especially when this is supposed to be one of the better examples of it. It ended up distracting me from whatever was going on but at least it avoided the lazy filmmaker thing of having things fly out at me just for the gimmick of it.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Huge fan of Fincher but this is one of the dullest films I've seen for a very long time. Everything takes far longer than it should do or needs to and nothing happens other than an old man gets young.

Predators
Not good, not terrible. Main problem with it is that it felt like more of a remake of the first one without the things that made that one good (mainly that it was a bit over the top, original, slightly cheesy and had Arnie at his peak). Brody did alright, although his Batman voice was odd, the rest of the cast were anonymous and the obvious twist of one of the team members was obvious from the start.

The ending was unsatisfactory and felt like they wanted to set up a sequel but didn't have the faintest idea what would happen in it.

I think pretty much the only movie I watched over Christmas was I Am Legend, which I hadn't seen before. I enjoyed it more than I was expecting to after various comments I'd read. I do generally like Will Smith, though.

Over the festering festive period I watched:

The Incredible Hulk. Christ on a bike, it is actually worse than the Eric Bana / Ang Lee version. Liv Tyler is still eminently munchable though.

Rambo - Great and weird gory stuff.

Wanted - Not as bad as I thought it would be, though not really a patch on the graphic novel it's supposedly based on.

Indiana Jones 4 - Still annoys me as much as the first time I saw it.

I watched Black Swan last night.

A ballet dancer wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan, but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like the evil twin sister of the White Swan, the Black Swan.

I would describe it as a tragedy, with some horror and erotic elements thrown in for good measure. Not bad overall.

Natalie Portman needs to eat a bit more.

The Town
Good story, good acting (even by Affleck), and well directed. One of the better crime films in recent months.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Dreadful. I can't stand whiny Michael Cera and his identical 'geek' performances from every single thing he has ever been in. The story bored me (fell asleep on the first attempt so had to do it in two sittings) and I hated every second of the action bits.

The music was okay but I expect better when Beck and Nigel Godrich are involved.

How to Train Your Dragon
Even after hearing a lot of praise it was better than I expected. Good animation and a well above average plot for this type of film (I'm starting to get used to Dreamworks shite like Shrek 4 and Ice Age 2+). Very enjoyable film, although Gerard Butler being cast in it was amusing for about 5 seconds - it was just a touch too obvious.

Mindless popcorn action for me this weekend with a couple of sequels.

Death Race 2, now I wasn't expecting much but I really love the re-imagining of Death Race that The Stath was in a while ago and this direct to disc movie isn't as good but still entertaining. Set before the events of that movie, although it's never actually spelt out, it's the Death Race origin movie. Starting off with a pretty decent car chase between a very nice Shelby Mustang and lots of cop cars, through imprisonment of the driver of that car (Luke Goss of all people), prison fights turned into TV entertainment through to the inevitable creation of Death Race and Frankenstein himself. It's pretty mindless violence but I enjoyed it. One really sloppy thing though is it's obviously filmed in a country that drives on the left (South Africa in this case) and they really could have done more to hide this fact!

Predators, more of a remake of the first one than I expected it to be and while it's certainly a metric fuckton better than Predator 2 it could and should have been better.
